Thoughts after the Daytona 520, I mean 500

-For those that hate plate racing…remind me why?

-For those that hate Brian France…you do have to applaud him for going on the air yesterday and explaining the pothole delay.

-I would say I had a good darkhorse pick in McMurray to win.

-However, with 3 of his 4 wins on restrictor plate tracks, I would say McMurray should be considered a favorite anytime we go Daytona and Talladega from now on.

-With McMurray winning yesterday, Atlanta is selling one dollar tickets. Wonder what would have happened had Reutimann won. Would they really give away tickets?

-A pothole delay is just a bad as a rain delay, maybe even worse.

-However, do you think NASCAR might ever look into a “halftime break” with a 10, maybe 20, minute red flag? I wouldn’t be for it, but with overtime and playoffs introduced within the past few years, it doesn’t seem impossible.

-How long before announcers stop making execuses for that Godaddy girl? When she missed a wreck early, it was a great move. But when she got caught up in a wreck, there was no where for her to go. Yea, that track was blocked, but from my vantage point she was far enough back were she could have slowed down a lot more. Maybe that’s being a little biased, so let me know what you saw.

-Was Tony in the race yesterday? Very surprising and disappointing not to see that 14 team contend.

-With strong performances in the 500, my curiosity has increased to see what the 56 and 1 do the rest of the year.

-I don’t think announcers are supposed to do this, but it seemed quite obvious who DW was pulling for on the final lap.

That’s all for today, let me know what you think and thanks for reading!

  1. Personally, I think the 3 green white checkered deal is great for Nascar. Sure, the announcers didn't seem to enjoy it... and the crew chiefs probably hate it as well... but I think it helps the sport by making the closing laps even more unpredictable.
